Thank you so much! Me Fine serves hundreds of children and families each year, and we couldn’t do it without community team members like you. Me Fine delivers support to our families as they need it, and our volunteer opportunities reflect that focus.
Due to HIPAA, hospital policies, and our own confidentiality practices, Me Fine cannot offer opportunities to engage directly with the children and families we serve. Also, in compliance with the safety protocols of our hospital partners, Me Fine cannot serve as a conduit for groups who wish to perform a service project within one of our partner hospitals.
Me Fine strives to develop long-term, multifaceted relationships with our supporters. While we are grateful for the wide grassroots support that makes our work possible, as a small team, we are unable to accommodate all volunteers who may wish to work with us. We have updated our volunteer policies to prioritize groups who have an ongoing relationship with Me Fine and to establish mutual understanding and expectations for partnership.
Organizations or groups who wish to volunteer with Me Fine must:
- Be a current supporter of Me Fine Foundation through financial or in-kind donations this calendar year.
- Complete a Volunteer Commitment Form that outlines the scope of work, project details, and mutual expectations of the partnership.
- Host a Me Fine Orientation for your team/group within the week prior to the project/volunteer date.
If your group meets this criteria, please review the options below and complete our general volunteer interest form to let us know which volunteer opportunities most interest you.
If not, we hope you will check out other ways to support the mission here, or consider lending your time and talents to one of our peer organizations:
- Ronald McDonald House of Durham and Wake County
- Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill
- UNC Children’s Hospital
- Duke Children’s Hospital
- WakeMed Children’s Hospital
- Arts for Life
For Current Partners: Below you’ll find a list of ways you can plug-in to our work. These activities are designed to help our families directly or to help fund our mission.
In-kind donations from the community are one of the most important components of Me Fine’s support for children and families in medical crisis. While specific needs vary, typical Program Drive items may include: baby items, gas cards, and a variety of toys, games, and art supplies to keep kids entertained during their hospital stay.
Good for: Small groups (2-10 people), large groups (10+ people)
Help Me Fine’s mission by gathering gently-used clothing and household items for our thrift store, Second Hope Shop. Want to make a bigger impact? Coordinate a neighborhood drive by posting on social apps like NextDoor or your neighborhood email listserv. Thrift Drives are a great way to involve your work team, civic or religious group, and other groups of people. The Second Hope Shop team can even come pick up your group’s donation. (For pickup inquiries, please contact Second Hope Shop Manager, Mary Angel Bastin.)
Good for: Small groups (2 – 10 people), large groups (10+ people)
Volunteer at Me Fine Event
Each year Me Fine hosts two major fundraisers, Music for Me Fine and the Me Fine Gala. These events contribute significantly to the organization’s annual revenues and are vital to our ability to meet increasing requests for assistance. Duties for event volunteers range from planning, staging, solicitation of auction items, promotion, and execution at the event itself.
Additionally, we can use a few pairs of capable and willing hands at third-party/partner events throughout the year. If you’ve ever been a part of a fundraising event before, this might be an opportunity for you!
Good for: Individuals, small groups (2-10 people)
