The exorbitant cost of care for a child battling a critical illness or medical crisis can have devastating financial consequences even the most well-prepared family. Me Fine knows that these families, who are already dealing with incredible emotional hardship, need fast, hassle-free help without lengthy applications and additional screening processes. Me Fine works closely with social workers and staff members at Duke Medical Center, WakeMed Children’s Hospital, and UNC Children’s Hospital to fund hospital emotional and psychosocial support programs. In addition, Me Fine provides tangible goods, services, and financial support by working directly with lienholders and service providers to provide funds via direct transfer.
We know that every family’s needs are unique and often unpredictable during a time of crisis. For that reason, we offer assistance in a variety of ways. Some common examples are provided below:
- Mortgage/rent assistance
- Utility bill payments
- Vehicle repairs and maintenance
- Gas cards + parking
- Grocery gift cards
- Basic household items
- Infant care items
- Funeral expenses
How does a family qualify for assistance? Me Fine relies exclusively on social workers within our partner hospitals for referrals. Families should identify their specific needs to their assigned social worker. Social workers are aware of Me Fine’s criteria and resources.
