The LeFeat Family

Imagine the fun and excitement of Christmas day completely forgotten as your teenage son collapses in the floor and has to be rushed to the hospital!

This is what happened to Korey LeFeat’s family on Christmas 2005. Korey was taken to the local emergency room and sent from there to Duke, where he was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Korey is still in treatment but the end is in sight. After 18 months of intensive treatment, Korey’s family has received the good news that while the tumor is still there, it is “dormant“ and he will soon be finished with his protocol.

During the several years of Korey’s treatment, I have become friends with his mom, Patricia. We talk or email often just to keep in touch. In fact, we know each other well enough that last week when Trisha called me she immediately noticed that I didn’t “sound right“ and wanted to know what was wrong. There wasn’t much “wrong“ just that I was having a bad morning but it meant a lot that she cared enough to pick up on that! Her husband teases her that she talks to me like I am her best friend. Her answer…“Lisa knows more about me and our situation than my best friend.“

The LeFeat’s have certainly had their share of hard times during Korey’s illness and treatments. Of course, first in their minds, is the frightening truth that the brain tumor, while dormant, is still there. Secondly, with all the time off from work and the high cost of Korey’s meds (even with good insurance, the co-pays are close to 500.00 a month), they have suffered some financial difficulties, as well. I am thrilled that Me Fine has been able to step in to help them in their time of crisis! I like to think that as difficult as things often are, that we have been able to provide some peace of mind.

“I don’t think you realize just how much you mean to us. Not just because you’ve paid bills for us and helped with gas and groceries either. You’ve have taken the time to get to know us. Lord knows how many times you’ve patiently listened to me whine about how bad things are. You don’t just give us financial help – you give care, concern and true friendship. We love you dearly.” -Patricia LeFeat
