Anabella's Story
Anabella Cole Curry was born on November 10, 2009 weighing 6 lbs, 7 oz and a length of 20.5 inches. At 3:00 am on the 11th, she was life-flighted to UNC Children’s Hospital, where she spent the first two days of her life. At three days old, she was transported to Duke Children’s Hospital. There, we were told the extent of her condition.
Bella was born with Hypoplastic left Heart (CDC), Intestinal Malrotation, Asplenia, and Heterotaxy. She was three days old when she survived her first and most evasive heart surgery. Each day she improved. At nine days old she underwent another surgery, this one to repair her intestines. And just like the first surgery, each day she improved. Bella spent the first 45 days of her life in the hospital.
On December 25, 2009 she finally came home. That was the best Christmas present any of us could have asked for.
The next two months were a little rocky. She was life-flighted to Duke three times and had her third surgery. This surgery was called a Nissin, which is where they tie her stomach up around her esophagus so that she will not be able to throw up. And at the same time, they placed a tube that pumps food directly into her stomach. This is how she receives most of her nutrition.
At five and a half months, she had her second heart surgery. As always, thanks to the good Lord, she did amazing. Bella goes back to Duke every month to make sure her heart is doing well.
She is actually in the hospital right now due to some feeding issues. She is an amazing child.
Bella has an incredible spirit and when she smiles at you, she owns you. Our whole lives have been changed because of Miss Bella. We are grateful to spend as much time with her as we are given. Bella has two more surgeries. But we KNOW with the Lord beside her, she will do amazing!!
