Lending Closet
The Me Fine Lending Closet is intended to assist families who have to move to be close to either Duke or UNC for lengthy treatments. Some families, especially those with children being treated through the Duke Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, end up living within minutes of the hospital in “corporate” type housing for sometimes longer than a year. These apartments do have all items available for the families but, in most cases, they are not “free.” The families can get what they need if they are willing to “rent” the items. Everything from microwaves to salt and pepper shakers can be rented but since these families are already having to pay for both rent at the apartment and mortgage or rent back home, any additional cost is hard to bear.
Me Fine Foundation keeps items on hand to loan to these families during their stay. Items are then returned to Me Fine and used for the next family.
